This is sweet. I bought one a couple years ago off ebay with the intent of doing something like this. You have just motivated me to dig it out of the garage and finally get to work on it.

How much did you shorten the top part? I finished up narrowing the front yesterday, but haven't measured top to bottom yet.

i just took the pedal assembily off then bolted the other part on did not have to shorten it at all
