are these beds the same bed? Will a standard cab short bed mount to an ex-cab?

there is VERY minimal difference between the 2.... I used to work at a parts store and I've had several s-10s.... When I sold a tonneau cover it always asked if it was ext or std cab....turns out the reason being that the length of the inside of the bed was about 3/4" difference....never really noticed it or understood why, but they did call for different covers!

But as far as mounting up, they mount up the same... I've used them both ways.

I do not know if the beds are different, but the angle of the back of the cab is different. When I used to sell truck parts, anything like a camper shell had to be for one or the other, so it would match the back of the cab.

So I have a 2001 Ext cab short bed, If i were to buy a std cab tonneau cover, it would fit my truck.

By the way sorry for asking this in the middle of your thread Rudy Cordova (maddawg), Just figured my question was on the same basis as yours.

Thanks

99.73% sure that a tonneau cover doesn't matter (made up percentage). Only a cap that has to fit the conteur of the cab SHOULD matter. I can't remember which way it is, but if you try to use the wrong cap, it will either touch the cab or have an awful gap. I used to sell A.R.E. caps and covers, and they fit soo snug against the cab that it does matter. If it is a hard tonneau it may affect only when it opens, but a soft cover shouldn't matter.

I kinda miss selling truck accssories, I visited my old shop (Tillman's) yesterday, and actually started helping customers! even though it has been 3-1/2 years.

P.S. If you are looking for a soft cover, the "Access" cover was and is still the best on the market. I used to sell the hell outta them. I also had an A.R.E. "Z"-series cap on my sonoma extended-cab/short bed and I loved it.

My dad bought a roll-and-lock cover, and it sucked.

Also, don't try to color match spray-on bedliners, because no matter what they tell you, it will definatly fade, no matter what the brand.
