ive been painting here and there in my garage. For a long time i didnt have any next door neighbors well just recently some moved in and lets just say they arent very friendly, well my question is has anyone ever had a problem with there neighbors complaining about you painting in your backyard/garage? im thinking this is something that i might have to deal with in the near future

i've been lucky to have neighbors who were pretty cool with me doing it(i have a 60x90 piece of property so theyre pretty close) but doing big stuff i've realized i shouldnt do from home. too much overspray and if you spray on a not windy day the solvent tends to linger too. primer on the other hand shouldnt be a problem.

I dont think there would be a problem unless they are just assholes with nothin better to do then complain. Just make sure there isnt overspray goin all over their stuff.

it depends if you live in the city or county but use filters on your exhaust fans so overspray does not cause a problem for you down the road. if your in the city make sure you put your unused paints and solvents in some kinda sealable container and not on the ground stuff like that

They can cause a nightmare! Ask Brian (Lost Cause) about it. The EPA can be called and lots of other folks who can bring sh*t.

His neighbor was a jerk.

yea i live in the city (Detroit) I dont know how high of a priority a call would be for a complaint about paint fumes in this city but then again u nvr know what can happen so thats why im concerned. im just painting the cab of my truck for now, during the winter i was going to paint the bed and a few small things, i figure during the winter not to many people are outside so its less likely for them to complain

EPA can hit you pretty hard. Over spray, How is the waste being taking caare of. It can become a nightmare to say the least.

Definately be careful. All it takes is for those a-holes to be having a bad day and next thing you know, cops will be at your front door. Once you're on their radar, say bye-bye to working in your garage at all. They'll be complaining about noises, saying your running a business out of your garage......any number of things thats just not worth the headache.
My advice: Do everything you can to keep your activities low key. Filter your exhaust, don't run your compressor or airtools at night, don't let the yard turn into a junk yard, etc.
And if they start complaining or threaten to call the police....... stay on their good side by bribing them with some free body or paintwork.
