ok, on my IKE-10 project, i got the truck cleaned out from the flooding it got, drained the oil and changed it, new gas, etc. it will crank and run for a second or two, then kill itself. the security light in the dash is staying on, and it has NO power windows, locks, etc. its a base model 1999 s-10. water build up in the exhaust? it fires so its not the plugs. clean oil and gas, drained the water out of the block, so its electrical somewhere or a trick to reset it. I tried reseting the system with the posts, and it just came back on....any ideas?

Underneith the dash do you have a flicker switch with a red light? Mine came factory with this device and if it is switched one way it will run for awhile then shut off and not turn over at all.

where about would the switch be at? but it has no power locks or alarm or anything else like that....

Mine is located right straight under the steering column where the plastic panel ends. But if you have no alarm, then what im talking about isnt your problem

yeah, it runs then shuts off, however the water did get upto the door handles its stripped inside and out bed off muffler off, i think its cutting power to the pump then fuel stops pumping, but at key, it pumps....

Resetting the posts wont reset the security thing, Chevy can reset them i believe, but theres a way to put key in, leave it in the on position for 30 mins, then turn it to off, then put it back to on for 30 mins, turn off then fire. Worked on my s-10 when i had to change keys. It pretty much rekeys the body computer to work with your key or something goofy like that. I found it in a ShopKey computer that Snapon puts out. Dunno if that will work for you being as you didnt rekey it. Good luck.

Also Do a search for PASSLOCK security key reset on google or something,

Ok, It appears you've reset the VATS.
The car does not recognise the chip in the ignition
key any longer. You can try to put the key
in the ignition, turn to the on position & wait at
least 10 mins like that.

In some cases, the VATS (GM'S VEHICLE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM)
will re learn the code this way, and will then
allow the restart. But if this does not work,
then you can simply tow it to any GM vehicle dealer
to have the service department re code it.

make sure your door chime box is plugged in or it didnt go bad w the water damage...sounds wierd i know but it could be the problem

a dime doesn't have a vats key
you need to have it scanned with a gm scan tool(tech 2) it will tell you what that security code is,more than likely a passlock sensor.

guy i know lost his bcm in the midst of his project. it was doing exactly the same thing. identical to what you're saying. maybe yours is shorted. he has to order a new one and have it programmed..

i dont really know much about it, but you could use that angle and ask somebody in the know.
