I have an 83 Chevy truck. I want to put an independent rear end in it, what rear end would you recommend? I

i think that the one of the nissans maybe the 240 has independet rear.
but i dont think they would match up since u got a chevy.

Corvette would be the easiest as far as lug pattern and width etc... Prolly find a kit somewhere. Here's a link to something similar.

There have been a couple vehicles that had independent rear suspensions that would work. You may have to redrill the lug pattern tho.

Check out the older Thunderbirds or newer Expeditions.

i recommend using a thunderbird or mark viii irs.....mark vii is aluminum so it is lighter and both are ford 8.8 center chunks.....the design is basically similar to most IFS setups in that it is a long arm short arm setup...plus there is a little bit of upgrades available in the aftermarket as well in the way of big brakes and gearing....check my profile for pics of the setup

I asked The shop that redrilled my bolt pattern from 5x4.25 to 5x4.5 for my Town Car if I could get the pattern drilled out to anything bigger, and they said they wouldn't recommend anything bigger than a 5x4.75 (s10) pattern due to amount of surface area of hubs.

Do you mean that it has CVs and not u-joints? If I remember correctly, those rear suspensions had CVs and the Vetts deffinately have u-joints.

ive been wondering what the narrowest IRS people have come across is. i wanna do that in my 78 yota, but would like to avoid narrowing a whole setup. and i noticed that supras (3rd gen) seem to have the whole rear subframe bolt in. looks like it would be easy to snag from a parts car. probably heavy as hell though.

im thinkin maybe like older rx7s or datsun z cars. pattern doesnt matter really, i can have that redrilled. im just tossin around ideas. thanks guys.

rough quick math. i have a 53" wide rear axle. 7" rims. 40mm offset. that gives me a trackwidth of about 63.2" 2nd gen RX7s have an overall width of 68" and about the same on the 89+ 240sx (s13). im sure i could come across others, but that answers my question.

i wanna do it, because i want to have a nice bit of camber at all four wheels. i got about 5 degrees up front. but thats just a guess. it looks nice but doesnt eat tires. thats the number. haha.

not sure what the track width of a older chevy is but i have noticed that the saturn sky and pontiac solstice has a decent looking irs....thinking it might fit better in a sdime, yota, nissan....but it is always something to look into....not sure are far as upgrades for the gearing or lsd's either but it is a idea. they do use a upper and lower and if i remeber correctly they have toe adjust also....the mark 8 rear ends are great and i can get them for a GREAT price.....any one looking for one hit me up....
