Hello everyone!
Ok, so 1975's might not be all that rare, but the mileage on this one I just bought is, or so I think. It is an all original 1975 Chevy crew cab Camper Special, with the original 454. What's really interesting is that the odometer reads 36,XXX. Now, when I bought this thing, I assumed that was 136,XXX or more.... but a lot of things have me thinking it is actually only 36,XXX original miles....
1) The bushings in the door have not been replaced, and they aren't sloppy. Likewise, the door strikes aren't all worn looking (like most chevy's of the 70's and 80's), and also appear to be original
2) There is no body rust anywhere.
3) Carpet and seats all look to be original, and there aren't any rips, tears, or wear marks
4) The dually fenders are not beat all to heck and look to be original as well.
5) The underside of the truck is extremely clean
6) The body is straight.... unusually straight for a truck that is 37 years old and is all original. There is only one dent in one door, which is a pretty easy fix.
7) Per my understanding, the original owner bought it just to haul a in-bed camper, and it was used pretty much solely for that purpose. Hence, the bed is in excellent condition. That's why I also think it has such low mileage... (was mainly just used to go camping).
The wheels appear to be original, and there is no pitting or rusting. Same thing on the bumper
9) All of the original aluminum trim is still on the truck and intact. The black portion is faded, but it's all there and in pretty good shape.
A friend of mine who worked for GM for over 20 years gave it a thorough look over, and is convinced as well that 36,XXX is it's true original mileage.
It runs great, and still even has the A/C intact (which does actually work by the way). The tranny shifts great. So far, surprisingly, I have found no leaks anywhere.
I'm really curious though, if it really IS original, what would something like this be worth? Granted, it could really use a paint job, but still.....
Thanks!
