Is it ok to mount a bag on a round bar? I was thinkin bout it and cant think of any trucks in my head with bags on round bars. Im looking at SD right now and noticed square bars are double the price. I always thought DOM cost more than square tubing but whatever im being a lil cheap.

They only cost more if theyre adjustable, if theyre solid its the same price. The round bar is fine, you may want to gusset the bottom of it tho.

I did it with 1.75" DOM .188 wall.

No gussets on the bar. I welded the plate to the bar to keep the bag from rocking side to side. And I put a 3/4" hole through the center of the bar so that I could weld in a piece of 3/4" .188 wall tube for the bolt to go through. You can see it on the bottom of the bar in this picture.

ive done bags on round bars a few time also. I used 2"OD .250 wall dom tho, just because it was around the shop.

it worked fine.

If the welds are okay, I wouldn't see a problem. If it was my suspension, I would add gusset's like Dave said......not for safety sake but for my personal reassurance.....then I would get AAA.

Sweet set-up Seth.

1.75" x .188" tubing is pretty tough, but I don't think that I would use it on a full-size, I'd go 2" x .188" instead.

By the nature of the beast, in similliar sizes, square bar is stiffer than round bar by about 30%, but it is also heavier (not a minitruckers biggest concern). This doesn't mean that you should or shouldn't use either, just some FYI.

Yeah I would definitely go larger than I did on a fullsize truck. In hindsight I probably should have gone larger on that truck, since the bed ended up getting skinned with a piece of 1/8" plate.

Its going on a chevy luv so i shouldn't need anything too beefy. SD's bars are 1.5" OD x .25" wall thickness. That ok for a bag with no bottom gusset. I would like to keep the weight down though. Gonna keep the stock 1.8.

On a truck that small, I don't think that it would be a problem.

I have a friend that has a long travel "Jeep" that is 2wd and has 700+ hp. It is designed for Glamis and is pretty much a sandrail with a fiberglass body dropped on top of it. The lower 4-link bars are only 1 1/2" od and the coilovers are simply bolted to a pair of tabs that are only about 3" wide welded right to the center of the bar. I don't know what the thickness of the bar is, but it has been together for several years now and the Jeep has been driven pretty hard. He has pics of it a few feet off the ground. I am always leary of things like that, but I can't argue with the fact that it is still alive
