you have to cut up the stock one. i just got done doin the double din convertion on my truck. it was a pain in the ass and ashtray doesnt open. most people just grind off the top of the ashtray, it looks getto when its open but do you really keep it open very long? you can also trim a little bit so you can get the lighter door open with plenty of room to use it. you do have to cut up the stock radio bucket and cut the tabs off your heater controls and raise them up about 1/4" i think it was and bring it in about 1/8" its def worth it in the end, looks way better them a getto lookin flip out

no i dont have any pics, sorry man. oh and i had to use one of those kits to put a single din into the truck that i had from before, i use a peice of sheet metal and mounted it on the radio and a 1/2" piece of wood to the pieces to lock it in from the kit, all screwed together. i know it sounds getto but it works great. if i have time today i will putt shit out and take pics.

you can also go to www.gmfullsize.com forums and do a search and you will find tons of info. good luck man

here is a link to the search, i know there are some guys that have cut up the 99-02 bezel and others that used the 03+ like i did. look around and if you have any questions i will help as much as i can.

oh and i didnt see anyone else cut the end brackets off the heater control box to move the box down and back but i thought it would be the easiest way to do it and it worked well.

You should be able to use a 2003 and up chevy double din kit. Cut the proper size out and then use ca glue/Body filler/ABS plastic to fill in the sides where it is recessed. I use this kit because it gives you the perfect 90 degree angle you need as well as smooth lines inbetween to make it look like it was supposed to be there.I have done plenty of this same install at the shop I work for and if it is done with some patience and the right materials, it looks factory. As far as what finish you go with, If you sand the whole bezel down and paint it looks fine. If you want the factory color, just tape off the area around what yu are working with and find some texture paint to coat the body filler you just did. Hey I charge $300-375 with paint for this work so that might give you an idea of what your local custom shop may be askin if you decide to go that route. God luck
