Will 1x3" .120 rectangle tubing be sufficent enough to hold the carrier bearing in its place on an 83 toyota longbed? Im worried about it flexing too much if its mounted with the 3" side horizontally. I gotta do it this way cause the truck is getting a sfbd. I would add gussets to it as well if I use it, I found it today layin around so Im just wonderin if it would work for this?

If not Im thinkin 1x3 3/16" thick instead?

seems like thats about what i used on my Hard Body.. (1x3x3/16 that is)
I could be wrong, but i dont think there is too much strees there, as long as the cross member is stong enough to hold the bolts that hold the bearing cap on nice and snug, i say do it.
i even recessed the lower part of the bearing into the cross member, so it was only like 3/4 thick in the center of the 'member. I dont daily that truck, but i have driven it to shows several hundred miles away (with only MOST of a drive shaft tunnel, so i could see the drive line) and saw nothing screwy...... so yea, I'd say do it.

That should be strong enough. Its not like these trucks have 100 horsepower or anything crazy! Lol.

I usually use 1.5x2.5 .120 wall, but I just like that size. Thats whats under my truck, and the 720.

I think that the carrier bearing crossmember on a Mazda is about 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 x .120 so 2 x 3 x .120 would be more than enough.
