If you dont mind repainting you can always fix the lip permanently...how?
First lets establish that low bagged trucks with large wheels will get into the fender lip from time to time. If you drive low then you will rub the inside alot as well. what does that do to the inside of the fender lip? pulls it down into a V shape, cracks the paint and many times puts a kink in the edge. even the best rolling job will still produce a kink if you turn hard with the truck down. Also a fender with the best rolling job is still weak as hell and you cant even lean against it much less a tire getting into it. Then you still have the edge that looks like ass, with the holes along it that holds fender trim. so if you have a badass full custom truck, cover truck or similar why not get all these issues covered at once and never have to worry about it again.
So how many times have you seen a cover truck layed out in a feature spread and see those ugly ass holes and tabs along the fender lip?
The best way to have a nice round hard edge that wont kink if the tire gets into it is to install some 3/8" solid rod along the edge. you can do this by cutting the edge about 1/4" along the entire edge. Then start by bending a piece of 3/8" solid as close to the curve as you can. start at one end and roll it along and tack it as you go. The edge will make the correct curve as you go. get it all welded in and grind it.
grind the inside of the fender and spread some dynaglass along the edge to keep the water out. this also helps the look of the inside of the fender on nicer trucks.
now you have a hard edge thats round and if you push it with your had or the tire gets into it it bows out along the full length and doesnt kink. There will never be a bent lip hanging down from the tire again..
