What does it mean when somebody posts 'bump' in a thread?

I know, I'm kinda retarded. Usually I can just figure it out after a while, but not in this case.

It's just to "bump" the topic to the top of the list so more people will read and maybe answer.

So, really, it's more of a note to the moderator?

no, it just moves the thread to the top of the list, so people like me see it and reply

Okay, wait. I'm feeling especially thick today...

1. You type 'bump' and it alerts people reading the thread to look at the topic.

2. Typing 'bump' moves the topic to the top of the list in that particular forum.

3. 'Bump' is used to draw attention to an OLD topic to attract more readers.

4. Other.

Which one. I know, some of you guys are like, 'what the hell is this guys prolblem', but I'm still a little con-fuzzed. I'm usually not this stupid.
