this might be in the wrong section, but since i'm willing to pay for it...???

have a 30G ipod video that has a sad face & exclimation point on the screen. i don't know what happened to it, it just wouldn't turn on one day. apple support said they could service it for $129 & only give me a 3 month warranty. they sell 80G refurbished ones for $169 with a 1 year warranty, so why would i have this fixed through them?!?!?! hopefully there's some computer/ipod genious that could help me for cheaper. i've already tried resetting it & it won't even be recognized on the computer to do a restore.

i hate to think that this $300 ipod i bought just about 1 & 1/2 yrs ago (just outside the warranty...go figure) is damn near junk?!?

can anyone help me please?????

thanks corey

Have you already tried restoring it? No matter what you're going to lose the music you had on it. If you're unsure about taking the following steps feel free to send it to me and I'll see what I can do. I also have a huge library so I can fill it for you if you need also. No charge.

FOUND THIS ON ANOTHER SITEIf a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod

its a 30G video as in 5th gen? like the 30/60s? ive got a 60. i know of a pawn shop in seattle near pike place that usually sells those for around 100-130. but, ive had similar problems with my 60. sometimes it will not turn off. or it will freeze. i havent lost any files from it yet due to a crash, but im expecting it someday. i did pop it open with a pocket knife when it froze, blew some dust out and it hasnt been a problem since. ill do a little bit of research for ya and see if i get any info on fixes for ya. some might be doable yourself.

i skimmed what he wrote. i did a quick search, found a page that said alot of people just popped the case open and shook the hard drive a bit. it couldnt hurt anything. the arm between the plates sticks, and that frees it up.

my old school 60g did the same thing...i let it sit for awhile and collect dust, and for a joke i dropped it on the ground and stomped on it and its worked ever since.

i dont suggest doing that but it worked for me

none of the above worked, but thanks anyway guys. i think the hard drive is fk'd. i CAN force it into disk mode & when itunes recognizes that there's a corrupt ipor connected, then i try to restore it as fast as i can, but then it'll just reset itself faster then itunes can restore it. it keeps switching back & forth from the sad face screen to "please wait very low battery" i bought a new battery from batteries plus but same. the hard drive makes a wierd noise too.

i'm open to anymore suggestions, but if it's a very expensive paperweight, then thanks anyway guys...
