I have a 79 and I want to know if anyone ever Z'd the frame and if yes, what needs to be done? Meaning, steering rod, transmission, hoses, ect... Is it a headache??? I was told that U dont have to Z the frame by Haggard fab...

i cant tell ya how much work it is..but i know those things pretty much lay pinch when you Z them

i dont know for sure when it comes to suburbans but just about every other chevy truck needs to be z'd in order to lay flat. i would think that you pretty much run into the same problems on every z too, again im not positive. As with anything else, every truck may have its own set of problems pending on what parts youre running. if you find out you need to z it, look at other chevy trucks with similar years/models there is plenty of information here on those types. good luck!

if you dont Z the frame then you must raise the front crossmember but you have to do one or the other to lay frame if it is a half ton

i dont know of any thread with detailed pics of raising the front cross member but here is a link to a good thread of a Zhttp://streetsourcemag.com/forum/topic.aspx?topic_id=97789&Topic_title=The+Story+So+Far...baggin'+an+87&forum_id=14&forum_title=Full+Size+Truckin+General

another option is the drop member from porter built customs(i think thats there name) any whoo its a bolt in front cross member. the only drawback is, its pricey, but nice to say the least.

Thorbecke Bros.has a sectioned crossmember now also for a lot less than the porter built. You run into all kinds of issues when you Z the frme on these trucks. You will need to get new steering shafts and some U joints either route you take. The new crossmember is definately the better route.

Its the same front clip as any other GM fullsize truck from 73-87

I did a Z and a cut off of the lowest part of the frame on an 86. Pics and a tech article on the site.
