1. why don't these things come assembled in the first place?

2. whats the easiest way to do this? i've seen the s10forum instructions that came from jason at SD, but was wondering if there are other ways to do it. i don't have a welding table with a threaded hole in it, etc.

AVS sell a tool for theirs. Works sweet. They usually do come assembled but you usually take em apart for paint anyway.

haha

I drilled a hole in a wood workbench and it worked to suck it down. I just made a big ol " washer" out of a scrap piece of 1/4" plate and I welded a nut to it (to keep from pulling though the wood table)

It's worked fine.

In the future, I think I am only going to purchase this style

You can rent a balljoint press tool from autozone to get them together....i've used that before. Ive also put them in a vice and heated the end with a torch and got them to go together. There a PITA though...

Search for "RUBICON FLEX JOINT" and stuff comes up

(best pic I have)

I got one of those when I made my wishbone (before SD started carrying theirs). It is a bit more expensive, but MUCH easier to assemble. I used an SD style one once and I am not going to use the snap ring style again. Just put the parts together and start screwing in the outer ring to pre-load the bushing. I used a makeshift tool to tighten it, but if I did it again (or next time I purchase them) I would buy the tool and use it for future projects.

Whats great is that SD uses a pneumatic cylinder to compress the joints before installation now hah! If you buy them alone, they come apart from the manufacturer. If you buy a product that includes one (ie, wishbone, 4link bar) they are assembled.

Thats why I like spherical rod ends better, no assembly required!
