are any batteries better than others for hydraulics? my brother came across a bunch of brand new red top optimas, and he said i could use what i needed. also, im not sure how many i would need exactly, ive been told a few things, but just looking for some opinions on what would be best? this is all for a 08 dodge charger. just laying it out, no 3 wheeling or hopping.

Anything deep cylce...the optima yellows and blues are deep cycles. I used the kinetics once (the small things) and they didn't work. Get at least 600cca's. If you have cash, go optima, if you're broke, costco works! Oh, and I think 3 batteries is perfect.

you should do some searching in the suspension forums because i was reading a thread were pat burke was talking about switching out the gears in the pump to smaller ones, wont be as fast but like you said you dont need any hopping anyway. by doing this you can run less batteries and never have to charge them. might be something worth looking into if you wanna keep it as clean as possible.

Running low on posts for the month, but I will chime in.
You do not want to use optima RED tops. You need to use a deep cycle battery. Both the yellow and blue top optimas come in a deep cycle battery. You can use either of those if you want to run Optimas, just make sure if you get blue tops, that they are the deep cycle ones. I believe all the yellows are deep cycle.
As far as Kinetiks go, I tried them once and they didn't have enough juice to even lift the car. Granted I was using a smaller model, but the cranking amps were pretty high. (So was the price) So if you wanted to run Kinetiks, you would have to buy one of the bigger models. By the time you get one big enough you will be spending $300-$400 a battery. Optimas can be purchased for $150 or less.
Your other option is any group 31 deep cycle battery. you can find them at any parts store. They are a lot cheaper than optimas or Kinetiks. The downfall is that they are not a sealed, maintance free battery. They need to be mounted right side up... no angles or on there sides. Or else you will have battery acid all over the place. Optimas and Kinetiks and other gell cell batteries can be mounted in any direction, even upside down. Plus they just look better.
Hope this helps.

ive heard nothing but bad stuff from people running kinetiks on their juice setups.......

awesome, thanks for all the help guys. ill quit trying to take the cheap way out, and buy 3 optima yellowtops this weekend. hopefully a new company will burst on the scene with some badass hydro parts so i can get this car on the ground.

i like how the RA guys keep saying kinetik even though it was already stated that it is either a bad idea or your gonna spend way more money. i just thought that was funny

when i had my juiced accord i had 4 bletops and they were great, lasted 2-4 weeks on every charge.

i used to sell batteries, you need a good deep cycle battery. Ive used optimas more than once for hydraulic applications. However Im not impressed with their performance. Even though I personally own one.

I'd suggest Kinetik, because of their high cranking ablility, to provide good peak for your hydraulic system.

Ideally you would want a longer amp hour rating for longer useage, but the peak cranking will provide you with the speed you need, even when the batteries start to get low on voltage.
