Air over shocks Good, Bad, Ugly?

I have never used an air over shock or a strut bag style suspension, just traditional air bags. I have a new daily driver and I am thinking about using the air over struts for it up front. It would make for a clean and easy install. But are these things reliable? How long do they last? do they all come in 3/8 ports or smaller? Are they safe to use with large valves like 1/2"? I have plenty of room to run a longer air over shock which would give me at most 5" of stroke.

I have not had any trouble with mine on the front of my mirage my buddy has had the struts brake on the ones on his escort a coulpe of times.
