i used the home depot cabinet magnet for years with no issues.

The new tahoes have gas doors like that. You might be able to get one from GM

the one on my XB is spring loaded with a pull thing inside that opens it up, i made one for a 33 speedstar at the shop like it and mounted the pull under the console. i can put up pics if you need...

BMW's use a magnet similar to the cabinetry magnets.

They are like $12 from the factory and look cool...
