you can sand prime then paint but when you get tires mounted they will get chipped and gouged like mine. but i also didnt wait long enough for the paint to cure.

scuff the paint. prime it. and spray. here is a vette we did

been on the car for 3 months no chips or anything.

I had a friend who got his painted black and it all turned out sweet but the center cap kept looking like shit and would bubble. Well come to find out after three time of painting them there is a thin layer of plastic of it that you cant really see.

So all in all look for that kind of stuff before you do it

These are the wheels that Puddin is talking about. Discount did a really good job not scratching these, but then we decided that we wanted a chrome lip and sanded it back off of.
