so i got 204XXX miles on my 93 burban, the tranny and rearend have been rebuild because uh, i nueteral dropped it like 4 years ago and gernaded the ever livin fuck outta em! anyway, noow im rollin bagged witha EDC on it and goin to be upgrading to a 300 amp alternator. should i look into a rebuild? it runs fine, doesnt blow oil or anything. i know eventually im goin to go fullbore and stroke it to 383 etc etc. so what should i do for now? moneys tight right now so goin fullbore right now isnt gonna happen for a couple years.

if money is tight, just do a tune up and run it easy. slowly save till you can AFFORD to rebuild it into a 383.

if its not burning oil or leaking it too bad, i would say do a compression check on it and see what numbers you get. There is deff no point to tear it apart to rebuild it if you are going to stroke it later. I agree with 3day, if money is tight give it a good tune up and take it easy on it till you can afford to tear it apart.

If it aint broke leave it alone. My little brother has a 55 Olds with the original untouched 324 in it. We upgraded to 700r4 and redid the rear but the motor has not been touched. It really expensive to rebuild and even though it has some blowby it runs great and is reliable. He's just gonna be easy on it and enjoy it until it decides it's done. You may also consider finding another block and rebuilding that one as time/money permits and swap em when ever it's ready. There on craigslist all the time for almost nothing.

The Suburban I just sold has 251,000+ on it and its all original still running strong. I would say just leave it alone until you can afford to do what you want with it.

My Roadmaster has 271,000+ and still runs like a top. Smallblock chevys will run forever if you take care of them. I use a good high mileage oil and Lucas oil stabilizer every 3,000 miles and call it good.
