Hey everybody. Its been a while. I Just acquired A 95 extended cab dime in gastonia nc. On my way back it decided to take a shit on me in the middle of nowhere. And this nowhere just happens to be six hours away from home. My damn driveshaft twisted itself apart. It looked like someone took a soda can and twisted it until it split. Don't know exactly what caused it yet but I do know that it managed to take out the gas tank and carrier barring. Im broke to on top of that because of my being in nashville auto diesel college and having no job so it took all the money I had to get it home. Well the trailer we took with us to bring it back was narrow and aparently shorter than my truck. Oh this all happened in Newport tn. I only had one friend to accompany me so this was going to be hard but we could do it (or so we thought). On the first few attempts to push it on the trailer we could only manage to get it to the point of the rear wheels going onto the trailer and off the ramps. All the while convoys of semis were passing by and NOBODY moved over even though it a law but where are the cops when ya need em? And it was 19 degreeze too. Well after we gave up on thinking we were going to do it without help we made one last desperate attempt. Oh and the battery was dead as shit for some reason so the windows wouldnt go down so we had to lock the steering wheel in place. Well on that last attempt we backed the truck off of the trailer and back about fifty feet and gave it our best shot. That was a BAD idea. Apparently the truck somehow got offcentered and on the return trip it ran into the side of the trailer at about 4 mph. The trailer was undamaged but not the same for the truck. I now need a grille and lower valance along with needing to pull the bumper back out about 2 inches. These trucks suck in crashes aparently. To top it all off I drove eight and a half hours to go get this truck and my cell phone died halfway into the trip. Well after that We abandoned theidea of doing it without help. We went one exit down and I managed to get three people to help. Even with five of us it still took twice to get it on the trailer. The trcuk just so happens to be about four inches longer than the trailer. It ran into the front of the trailer and ripped the valance the rest of the way off and we had to push it a little further just to get the gate to close. so the truck was basically beat into the trailer so it couldnt rollanywhere. I ended up using a pair of jeans to put between the gate and tailgate. I got my turck home though. Well Now I need some help finding the parts I need to fix my trcuk. Anybody got some laying around they can let me get relatively cheap Id appreciate it. I need a gas tank, driveshaft, used carrier barring, lower valance, and grille. Any help is appreciated.

That blows! At least you got it home. So were you a Diesel d**k or a bondo b***h. I graduated from NADC as well. Good luck on finding parts!

carrier bearing is only about 30 bucks

well I finally pushed it in the garage and got under it just to find out how bad it really is and DAMN! It beat the flowmaster to death, broke the yoke completely off of the rearend, big hole in the gas tank, carrier baring is gone altogether, and last but certainly not least, it broke the tailshaft housing in HALF! I think the transmission will be ok and the rearend too as long as I can get whats left off. That driveshaft was ANGRY and apparently it wasnt going out alone. anybody got some parts for me?

a new drive shaft is cheap, only about $180 I wouldn't take chances with using a cheap driveshaft. It sounds like you've got enough other parts to worry about, the pick a part on centennial in Nashville has plenty of s10's to get parts off of. sounds like a yoke had bad needle bearings and decided to grenade in accordance with murphy's law, On a road trip once one of our caravan members had a tire blow out in Desert Center CA. They call it that cause it's in the center of the middle of nowhere. The tire guy we found at 3 in the morning didn't have a machine, and he looked at us like we were crazy bringing in a 17 with a lo pro tire, 100 mile tow later and we stayed in a friends house that had just been sold so it was empty, 15 people just happy to have a floor to sleep on. Next day we finally made it to Severed Octoberfest, and had to work the show. It was a fun roadtrip

What would cause the drive shaft to do that? that would be my question before I bought new parts to go ack in. I have only seen a 700hp big block chevelle with 14" wide slicks shred a drive shaft like you have descibed. did something lock up in the rear or trans?
Anyway at least you got it back home. Maybe one day I will tell you about my trip from NY to GA when my straps broke on my trailer and my ranger almost rolled off the trailer

Well The culprit that took out the driveshaft was my gas tank crossmember and a horrible pinion angle so that probably is what took out the yoke on the rearend. Still havent located the tailshaft housing but Ive got the driveshaft and gas tank handled along with the yoke on the rearend. well, located but not picked up yet. I guess I will tackle it all in one shot so I don't get pissed off at it and break everything else in the process. And Im broke so... Gotta love our economy.
