I took my truck down for smog and they told me they wouldn't pass me because my RCI fuel cell was aftermarket. Since they started the fuel evaporation test that pressurizes your tank they said it was a no go. They were going to call the B.A.R. (bureau of automotive repair) to see if it was legal and never did. My question is, has anyone had problems with smog due to a fuel cell and how do you get around it. Thanks

I had the same problem they wouldnt pass it because of the fuel cell. Luckily one of the guys who worked there knew the guy who originally owned my truck so he passed me

The way that I got by was when we built my fuel cell we used the stock float and the filler neck off the stock s10. May not be what you want to hear but that is what I did, and if that failed I have a buddy that smogs.

The only reason the fuel cell may not pass is because you no longer have the evap system. It vents the fuel vapors in the engine to be burned off. Unless you can find a way to reinstall it along with you fuel cell, you may have to find someone willing to overlook it for a few bucks. Or reinstall the old fuel system.

Good luck!

That sucks bro! Is there another location you could take it to so you don't have to deal with the same asshole!

Don't know how it works out there I got lucky and moved where they don't have emissions testing!

If you are obd2 you will need fuel tank pressure sensor and evap line as stated earlier. They are not on the fuel filler neck. Why did they check the tank? Did have the engine check light on?

You also need a stock gas cap.

The smog place across from me says as long as the system pressurizes and they can test it, that it shouldn't matter what the tank looks like.

i went to another smog shop and they told me i had to go to the smog referee and have him pass it then i can get a legit smog with a fuel cell for the life of the truck, if he passes it.
