i made an adapter to use the stock tranny crossmember to a 700r4 mount, you will have to modify the front part of your tranny tunnel if using a 700r4 as well as a spot in the floor where the modulator or whatever sticks out the side the tranny on the passenger side. i will  be using a griffin radiatior. you will prolly need to run electric fans that push mounted in front the radiator.

theres the engine itself building / rebuilding then putting a reliable tranny behind it. Then you need to mount the engine ie motor mounts and tranny mount. Is the truck b/d ? if so there may be issues with firewall and tranny tunnel. Becareful with the firewall running a HEI set up, dont want to stab the distributor into the firewall-a busted dist cap can cause a heck of a headache. Now you have to transfer power to the rear end thus in turn you will need a new driveshaft and what kind of rear end do you plan on using ? A stock type small block will put out over 200hp and im sure will easily blow out your rear end quite easily. OK now you got the engine in what about the cooling system, the stock radiator was meant for the 4 cylinder, you will have to switch that over to an aftermarket to fit under the hood but be able to cool the engine. Then theres the exhaust system, you going to run true duals ? 2 into 1 ? is a x pipe going to be installed   is the engine going to be carbed or efi, then theres all the wiring that goes along with it   just depends on what all you want and how deep are your pockets

on a brighter note you shouldnt have any issues with the firewall-distributor. is your truck an american model or japan model? does it have the gm 10 bolt rearend or the banjo style where everything comes out the front of it? if you have the gm style rearend you are lucky and can get away with using an s10 single cab swb driveshaft.
