im thinking about buying a 1966 c10 that will be a work/project truck. what things should i look for i.e. rust spots, oil leaks, etc etc. its in lake charles and the lady says she drives it 50 miles a day 4 or 5 days a week.

Problem areas for rust include drip rails, cab corners, rocker panels, floors, feal along the bottom of the doors.

pnk sign up on the c10forum when and if you get the truck. like wicked said, those spots are very common for rust, if you can check the floorboards they are a common rust spot too.

i actually did sign up on c10 forum.  ive already found alot of helpful hints on there.  but i think i may have a wolf in sheeps clothing. the add said 66 chevy pickup.  but when i started looking at parts, the grills for a 66 chevy were different from the one thats on the truck. i did some research and the grill on the truck is for a 66 gmc.  so ive asked her to send me the vin so i can look into the vehicles history. also are alot of those parts interchangeable ie fenders, hoods, bedsides.  i would think so.

Yes the chevy and gmc parts are interchangable.
