At my local mechanic's shop today, they were working on a flood damaged 2007 Colorado crew-cab z71.  The guy bought it for $2500 and had them go through it and fix everything, and now it runs great and looks brand new.  All in all it will cost him about 4-5 thousand dollars.    I would have just bought it, stripped it, fixed whatever it needed to run, and taken it off-road.  Where can you buy these cars?  Can you buy them as an individual or do you need a dealer license?  I am just south of Indianapolis and looking for somewhere local.

you would have to go to the same auctions as the salvage yards go to. Doubtful you're going to find anything like that in your neck of the woods, you'll find plenty of that kinda stuff along the gulf coast but most of that stuff aint pretty, I saw a newer celica gt in a junkyard in houston that was covered and i mean covered in barnacles

you do not want a flooded car they are a never ending nightmare. water will never get out of some of the ele. stuff.  we have a lady that got a chrysler aspen for $3000.00 she has spent over $7000.00 on it and it still is not wright.

I was thinking more along the lines of getting a straight body and frame to start a project.  If you are going to strip it down anyway, why not start with a flood car.

There are a few companies in Dallas that buy them at auction and sell them to the public. Check ebay and craigslist. Thats how I find them. If you are going to strip it look for cars that were towed and never claimed. Theres alot on ebay. A guy in Oklahoma City sells tons of cars with no keys and no idea whats wrong with them for cheap.
