I have an idea as to what this might be but i was going to see what some of yall thought. The truck is a 87' Mazda B2000 with a manual tranny when I put it in gear the shifter still has all kinds of play in it. I can bounce it back in fourth and side to side wile in any gear. i had a problem like this before on a s-10 and I seem to remember it being a bushing or something but it has been awile. Let me know what you think.

sounds like it is the throw out bearing, hope this helps

Would the throw out bearing make it make a whining noise at around 30 to 35 mph? Also it still shifts fine but it's just loose.

yes it would, I have the same problem right now going on with my d50.  I just dont have the time to fix it right now.  My d50 whines through the 1-3 gears then 5 th gear. thats right now its sitting and not being driven i dont want to break down.

What year d50 you got? I have one that I'm building right now for my show truck mine is a 88 is extended cab.

The whining noise and the slack shifter may be two unrelated problems.   There is a plastic/nylon bushing that snaps onto the bottom of the shifter where it slides into the top of the trans. These wear out over time. I had to replace one on my truck when I first bought it. This is what allows the shifter to have so much movement while in any gear( unless you have really screwed the transmission, but I do not think you could get into a gear if that was the case ).   The part is about 7-15 dollars and is available at the dealership. It simply snaps over the ball on the bottom of the shifter. You can get the shifter out by taking off the shift console, then undoing the bolt holding the shifter to the trans...pull it out and inspect the little white nylon piece( if it isn't there then it needs replaced..haha ).   This is all off of memory...and it has been a long time since I replaced this, so some steps may not be completely accurate. You'll figure it out pretty quickly when you get into it however.

yeah, that sounds like the bushing to me as well. i know that with yotas, there are a few that are a little different or something that people say feels great in their 4wds. maybe something similar is available for a mazda.

Mine is whining in 4th and 5th... I will check the fluid as well... but the info calls for 2 quarts, and that is what I put in it until it was flowing back out.
