what's the stock rear end for a 1992 toyota 2wd pickup?? i have 14 inch wheels and tires on 60 series tires. i can go from 20 mph to 60 mph in second gear.but i think my speedo is off by 10 mph slower.when i do the 18 inch wheels on 40 or 45 series tires am i going to lose another 10 or 15 mph.because doesn't your rear end ratio change when you go to a different tire size.plus do i have to get a aftermarket chip to correct my speedometer???

92 is the first year of electric speedos in the pickups. you can get a box that has an adjustment dial to multiply or reduce the signal to adjust it. stock in toyota pickups is 4.10. dont think the 2wds had any other options. my 78 is the same as my 92 was. a change in the overall diameter does effect gearing, because of every turn of the rear end, you have different amounts of distance the tire rolls in that one turn. larger diameter means larger circumferance, which means a longer distance on a straight line. so, a shorter tire will rev up quicker but at a given speed have a higher engine rpm. but, assuming a 215/60/14 is what you have, and a 215/40/18 is what you will have, you will actually go to a taller tire. but, those are general numbers. for any tire, i wouldnt roll daily on less than a 45. 40 is okay if you have a decent amount of suspension travel and watch out for the really big bumps.   i personally run a 225/50/16 all the way around on my 78 and its got very little travel due to the huge static drop. its roughly 6" drop all the way around. hopefully some of this helped you.

my 4x4 has the same motor on 39.00 inch tires. it takes a while to speed up while my 2wd takes less than half time.i totally agree with you.do you know the name of the box so i can adjust the speedo too???i'm going to buy a wrecked 97-2004 toyota tacoma 4wd or 4runner 4wd with a 5-spd.so i can swap over the 3.4 5vze-fe v6 for much more power.my 4wd needs low end tourqe really bad.thanks for your advice too!!!

my 78 with a 20r, big header, full exhaust,  ported intake, 32/36 weber and a few other small tricks can keep up with most of them. or beat.

sweet my truck hauls ass with air intake and flowmaster 40 series exhaust.but it also needs drop shocks, bigger rims 18's and skinner tires and upgraded swyabars with end link budhings too.i also have power steering and brakes all of my other mini-trucks never did too.it's nice but it doesn't handle like my 77 and 78 datsun pickups they handeld like a go cart and could keep up with some of the best hondas, acuras, toyotas too.white93yota!!!

yeah, i lost my sway bar in the drop process. tires would hit it, and the frame sat on it on the spring cups. i need to figure out a way to put it back in there. or one from something else. i do want to get a 2nd front clip (the whole suspension bolts in on these; arms, cups, ect) and cut the spring cup off and modify it and the lower arm to accept a coilover spring. then i can run a stiffer spring and may not need a sway bar as badly. i might also narrow the suspension a hair to make finding wheels a bit easier. these trucks are really narrow. and im talking about the 74-78s. you front clip is all welded in i believe.

yeah sometimes ifs can be a pain in the ass!!!

yeah. its not too bad finding wheels for the 89-95s. i have very flared fenders and still i need +40 offset on a 7" narrow rim. that leaves rsx and new style v6 mustang 17s as cheap alternatives. not much beyond that. lol.
