study your trucks stock wiring harness and wiring diagrams, (wiring diagrams can be found at mazdabscene.com or other places online) and fuse panel, get an aftermarket fusepanel and wire up ony what you would like to keep such as wipers, signals, horn etc...

The only wires you need on a SBC are the alt, starter, distributor, and electric choke if equiped. Also you may need a power wire for an electric fuel pump unless your running a mechanical. I would just go though the existing engine compartment and see what you can use. I just used a Painless kit on my Nissan and rewired the whole truck.

hooking up the SBC is pretty simple if hes a novice he will have some difficulty tieing the wiring into the wipers ignition and turnsignals on the mazda, if you were going with an aftermarket harness ron francis has the best kits bar none in my opinion ive used both painless and ron francis.
