Im not sure if it matters or not. Mine is a 3.9. Either one of those motors will bolt right in. I'll be at scrapin(not w/my truck) so it'll be nice to see a Dakota there. I know there will be a bodied single cab there. Anyways, pm me, i can't see your screen name,

manual matters because of having to move the clutch master up for tire clearance. id say a small z is needed knowing dodge suspensions (crossmembers are always way lower than the frame), drop spindles, firewall tub, move the stuff above the tires up or over. i would keep the 3.9 in it myself. find an old used carb intake and swap to a 500cfm 2 bbl holley. pistons and yada are the same as the 318. they make cams and stuff for them too. rear is however you wanna do it. if you dont have wheels yet, id say go to the 87-90 dakota rotors and rearend to get 5x4.5 pattern. easier to find wheels.

Edited: 2/5/2009 9:12:08 AM by jayslowlowi am working on a 92 ext cab with a  318 right now. i z'd the front 2" with that done you can get around 26.5" of total rim and tire and get it to lay. i am gettin 20s. i just ordered my wheels  are a +45 offset and tires are 235/30. there is a guy on customdakotas who has same set up. i don't think your offset is gonna work. and as far as getting it to lay on 22's if you pie cut the arms. or do a bigger z then you could prolly do it. but i think you would have to tub the firewall too.
