I've been trying to decided if it would be better to go with traditional or stock floor body drop on my 04 reg cab silverado... I know it should seem like a no brainer, however I am wondering about the strength of a stock floor vs. a traditional?  Not to mention time and money.  I'm 5'10" so losing a couple inches of head room would not matter....

if it was me i would do a stock floor but if money is a issue u can do a traditional for cheap and the strength of a stock floor depends on the builder gussets and so on

if you build a stockfloored frame right then youve actually added strength to the frame.  Traditional takes less time to get the rockers on the ground, but youve added time in sheetmetaling everything back up, in most cases if you do a traditional get the truck to lay frame then lay it out and cut the floor, and firewall, get the floor welded back together good enough to where it doesnt flex or move the cab and lift the cab up off the frame and finish the firewall seam seal and metal finish both sides of firewall the right way, lifting the cab off the frame is the only way to do it right. A stock floor your gonna run into re running gaslines and brake lines, exhuast etc... your also gonna be very tight on space under there as far as getting an exhaust to fit... either way is good if done right... but as far as time AND money goes, traditional will be your best friend in the end because you wont have to re run your exhaust and brake lines and other odds and ends BS

Channel it. Its easy to do on that style truck. I take it you just want to do 2 3/4"-3" to the rockers correct? Cut the floor where the frame rails are and sheet metal over them, raise the tranny hump about 1.5 - 2". lower the cab mounts, tub the firewall, body drop the bed and your good to go. You could probably get the cab done in a weekend. Stock carpet should fit with a little work.

i agree with Jason. channel it. there is an issue of streettrucks where they did a tech article on it. im not sure what issue it is but im sure someone can tell you.

i channeled mine 3", way easier than the other 2 options for these trucks

just wondering what is the correct way to stockfloor on a obs is it ok just to put the 2 '' by 4'' tube and weld it to the lower part of the rail and cut the top off? i have seen this done to alot of obs trucks. would this way still retain factory rail strenght or better?  and what thickness steel would you use, same thickness as frame or thicker
