Ford's SVT team put a supercharged 5.4L from a Lightning into an extended cab ranger awhile back, called Lightning Bolt, Truckin' magazine called it Blurple. It was a blue/purple color if I remember correctly it was a fleetside. they had the wheels made specially for it (that looked just like the Lightning wheels) to fit i think it was 305 wide on a 17 in the back.   I dont see why a 4.6 wouldnt fit if people can put ford 302 and chevy 350 in them all the time. found one on rangerpowersports.com that was an 88 guy put a 460 into and had video of it running shaking the whole truck when he reved it up.

A 4.6L  mod motor is like a  foot wider than a 302 v8.  Ive seen 460s  in old school rangers, BUT they werent laying rocker or bagged. Clearance issues werent as crazy.

Good luck, the engine is wider, the wiring is a nightmare and after market is just starting to embrace them.  It can be done just have to decide how bad you want it.

For wiring a 4.6 or 5.4  mod motor check out the detail zone, they make a harness for about any ford motor including a 4V, they are not cheap but they have them. I never have liked the look of a 2V 4.6 kind of ugly on top, but if your wanting a driver and not eye candy under the hood great running motors.

Yep its been done...   My brother actually put  a 4.6 cobra motor into his 98 Ranger, hell its been 8 years since he's done it now.  It was a tight fit and the wiring was a headache but he was a Ford Tech at the time. He used the factory harness and hydro booster setup....  The truck is just lowered with a cal track system in the rear.   I'll post up some pics as soon as I can.   The truck has been sitting up for a couple years in his shop, been put on the back burnner.

I think It would be hard to be done if you were plannin on laying out but if your just static dropping it go for it
