I was thinking of doing a cantilever setup on the front of my ranger. I was wondering if there was common formula to go by or is it a trial and error kind of thing. thanks,
Most of the ones I see use a ratio of 1:1. I think if you start using a different ratio you start messing with the spring rate of the bag. And I believe it makes it harder to find the appropriate shock. I may be wrong though.
yeah i have beams but i was just thinking about the cantilever to make it different. I was mainly wondering if the pivot point needed to be in the middle or closer to the bag or beam. But thanks for all the advice.
The beauty of a cantilever or bell-crank is that you can change the leverage ratio within a small area. There is no set ratio that cantilevers should be built in, your needs are what determines the ratio.
if you have the pivot point in the center its 1:1 so to say if you have a bag that has 8" of useable stock you will have 8" of lift. so if you have the pivot point closer to the bag that means you have more lift and if the pivot point is farther from the bag you will have less lift
