Just wondering what is a reasonable and sensible amount to narrow my front clip for increase wheel clearance and room to turn low. its on a bd'd toyota on 18 x 8s. i was thinking 50mm or 2inchs for you guys lol.i know ernie did his d50 but i dont know how much it was. just interested to hear your idea and anyone elses. tazac

I'm pretty sure ernie just did his truck 2 inches. you gotta remember though d50 are backside steering trucks. Im pretty sure toyotas arent. Ernie didnt have to worry about the steering shaft coming up past the control arms. I'm guessing the upper control arm will bottom out if you just z'd the control arm points in toward the motor.  I'm interested to see Max's reply also, He always has great ideas.

I think that a total of 50mm would be a good amount, but also that is a very general number. The pre-Taco Toyotas are a front steer, but I'm not sure how that should matter too much. The Taco would be a tougher scenario because the rack is not very easy to narrow as compared to the steering center link, but as long as everything is narrowed the same amount, there shouldn't be any problems.

my 89-95 toyo is front steer. i am building new control arm and mounts for the control arms so i can make it all work easily enough or worst case scenario i convert to rack and pinion.

I get my Luv sat and it has a toy front clip that was narrowed but I'm not sure how much.  Bob Grant did it several years ago, I'll ask him if he remembers how much.  I can measure it when I get it home if you want.

I narrowed a Toyota clip 5 inches for the Datsun. Was pretty easy. It would be best to narrow the engine crossmember and drag link, not move the control arm mounts.

So I measured it last night.  It's 19 1/2 inches from inside to inside of the rails at the crossmember.  Not sure how wide they are stock.  Yeah, I bought it a little over a year ago, it's just taken me this long to get it here with gas how it was ( thanks Nick and Matt Gonzales) .  Always been one of my favorite mini's and when the opportunity presented itself I couldn't pass it up.  I gotta finish up some other stuff before I start on it so It'll be on hold little while but I will finish it I promise.  I'll probably bring it out a few times just so folks can see it.  It's pretty much exactly like it appeared in construction zone.
