so i just picked up a bagged explorer off a club member...its an awesome truck, and love it.. all the suspension work is extremely solid and well executed... the only thing that bugs me about the truck is having the compressors inside the truck...

right now all the valves are mounted off the tank and everything is all in one area...im thinking about sound deadening the whole interior, and then building some sort of "trunk" to hide all the compressors and what not...

my question is if i cover up the compressors and have them in a somewhat sealed enclosure, will this have any negative side effects on them???
obviously they suck in air to fill up the tank, but if they're in a sealed area will they still work as they do now? just curious...

i'll post up pics shortly to give u guys an idea of what im workin with...

my only worry would be heat. that is the major enemy of electric compressors. maybe add some fans so when the comps kick on, the fans kick on.

if you worried about head you could put some small vents in the box,or even those port things like on speaker boxes. and as for them suckin in air,ViAirs come with a remote filter kit w/ airline to mount the filter elsewhere,in ur case you could mount them on the outside of the box. hope that helped. BTW,hows the roadster s10 comin along? havin seen pics in a while.

why not build the compartment like you want and run an inlet hose for the compressor for fresh air, you might also have to set up a fan to turn on at a certain temp, to lower the temp in the container for the compressorsi would mount all this outside of the vehicle under it. not inside,  my  2 cents but im not looking at the truck

I have an Envoy with 2 480's in a trunk like compartment inside the rear. They work awesome. Prior to the 480s, I had 2 450's in it for 2.5 years. They still work great (bumped up to the 200psi models so ditched the 450's) I drive the suv everyday and have never had a problem with heat. You would have to run them for 30 minutes straight in order for them to get cooking. Use some dynamat and kill the sound of the compressors. You'll be happy and all those guys w/ juice who complain about the compressors' noise won't notice them anymore.

Yay! Teach came in with his daily hydraulic comment.  TC, his are in a steel aquarium, and as he said, It's fine. Glad to see Kellen's exploder back out, hopefully you will finish it. Wheres that little curly haired kid been? Still doing the night club scene?

here's the picture of how it looks right now...pretty f*ckin bare...lol im thinking fans is definately a good idea, especially in vegas w/ 110+ degree heat...
