dust cap

just bought some wheels for my 92 dakota and i have a problem the dustcap for the wheel bearings sticks out to far and i cant get the center cap on, can i just flaten the dust cap out with a hammer to get it to work

Does the center cap fit on without the dust cap on? if it does take off the dust cap, add more grease just to keep dirt and water out of the bearings and roll em, my ranger has been without dust caps on the front for 2 summers now and everything is still fine

You can usually get away with hammering the cap in a bit to get the center caps on. I would advise against running without them for safety reasons, a seized front wheel bearing is no fun for anyone.
