i'm not 110% sure, but i've had both torn apart and they look the exact same... my best guess would be yes

they are the same, although some of each came with the teardrop exhaust ports on the head.  depending on the year, they also had a tall deck block & a short deck.  i can't remember off the top of my head, but i think one is like 13.5" & the other is 14.25" as measured from the oil pan rail to the top of the head gasket surface.  this does effect the timing chain, rails, & timing cover, so make sure the 2 motors you got are the same.

Ok not to jack the thread or anything but are you saying that they wont lay with an auto in it? iv never had an auto just 5 speeds so im just wondering

i know that they WILL lay out with an auto in it because i've seen them done at shows, but have no experience myself.  i just know that it can be done, but don't know what's involved.  one thing to note though, is that that motor with an auto will have damn near no power at all.  my buddy's nissan w/auto couldn't get out of its own way, so maybe i'd suggest swapping it out to the 5 speed...

So...you can take a 22R and just put the FI parts on it????

You can swap the EFI parts onto the 22R and it will work fine, just be sure to examine both heads and make sure the ports are the same. A friend of mine has an 86 Xtra cab with an auto and the trans pan is a hair lower than the oil pan an the engine, it shouldn't be a problem to lay with an auto, just a bit more of a challenge than a 5 gear. As far as the performance of the auto I thought it was okay myself, slower than a 5 gear but not terrible.
