It's a 1989 Suburban 2500. So I started sanding down rust to get it down to bare metal and get some primer on there to stop the rust from coming back up. well I can already see the rust forming again and want to know what I should use as a treatment to stop the rust in it's tracks and also what rattle can primer is best. I tried the Dupli-Color over the weekend and one of the cans had a crappy tip and the end result sucked on that side of the hood. I bought the RustOleam Primer yesterday and plan on throwing that on some of those spots I can see the rust coming back up. Also, what is the deal with Primer Etcher, Primer Sealer, other different kind of primers? There's so many options and not a whole lot of knowledge for me to read on this. I just need some insight on doing this work on my own and what I should be using????

Get some rust mort from your local paint store amd brush it on. it turns the rust to primmer and makes it easy to sand then prime over it.

do not use rust mort. do not use ospho. da sand down to bare metal with 80 grit.   pick a paint brand and use their system. pick a brand that has a epoxy primer for baremetal. shoot and watch the rust stop. i dont recommend any rust converters on anything that u can just sand out.  rust converters are always a last option that almost never need to be used.

I only went down to bare metal where the rust was and went over the entire surface with all three grits to get it all as uniform as possible, but stopped as doing it by hand would have taken me all night. Should I sand it more than what I've done so far. I'll be posting pics this weekend of The Beast and what's done so far.

THANKS AGAIN!
