old school patina look - how to???

Hey guys, I've about got all the parts for my bobber project, wanted to do something a little different on the paint.  Instead of painting it a color, I'd like to give it a faded base and then "weather" it like it's been sitting in a field somewhere for years. Ideas?  I'm up for any suggestions. Thanks guys!

not sure exactly what look you want, but get a a couple colors you like, and just layer them.  Then sand away the colors to expose the ones underneath  Spray some flat clear on it, then you have an old looking paint job that will still last.  You could even scuff the clear up in some places

What would you suggest to scuff it up?  A pretty fine grit I'm assuming? I'm wanting a look similar to these: LINK LINK

I think it's official... vintage paint has now "jumped the shark".

put one this top coat of the paint you intend to sand off in areas, makes it a lil easier. or just put it in a field for a couple of years lol.

What do you guys make of THIS stuff?

badass. its not to bad for a gallon eithr.

red scotch brite pads. rub and scuff

just like they said above get all the colors you want...layer em,then wetsand it then clear it with a flattening agent in it
