Hello everyone, I want to try and get my truck covered in primer by next weekend. Aside from smoothing out the body work, I think I should be able to pull it off. The questions I have for you is that I have never sprayed with a gun before and really have no clue how to mix the primer or such. What all chemicals do I need to buy for the job? What do I need to mix with the primer and how much? I'm using a 1.4 tip on my gun, do I need to use a different tip? What is a good quality primer and such to buy that's not extremely expensive? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

All the info for mixing ratios is on the back of the can. Your tip is alittle small you should use a 1.7 or 1.8 because primer is thicker so you dont want to keep clogging your gun its a pain in the ass.  If you have  a autobody supply close go in there and talk to them to see which brands they carry and how much they are. You should get some mixing cups also they are priceless when mixing any kind of paint material. If you go down to bare metal anywhere, you probally should use some epoxy primer. Hope this helps

Ok, so I have my stuff and the mixing ratio says on the back on the primer can to mix 2:3. So lets say I used a quart of primer, how much thinner would I need to add to get the rite ratio?

What kind of primer did you buy?  2:3 sounds odd.   You should buy some paint mixing cups, they have the ratios on the side of the cups, makes it 100x easier
