---------------------------------------------Originally posted by draggin95nisshow do u loose money when the manufacturer replaces it with w new one and then rebuilds that one and sends it out again....---------------------------------------------Man i wish it worked that way. Ok here we go autoparts the way it used to be is long gone. Company X negotiates with Auto Parts Store O that if they buy from them they will reimburse them for say 14% of the warranty they sell cause they have figured out in mass production that 18% of alternator due to whatever reason fail. Now they do that to get you as a consumer the absolute lowest price they can. So what in the old days would have happened is there would have been a build in mark up to compensate for the warranty precentage. Well in the auto parts market you cant do that cause everyone always wants to beat you up over price. So we or zone or whoever negotiate that if we buy say 3 million dollars in alternators from company x they will write us a check for 14% for that total. Now if as a company we take back say 20% of that total we lost 6% in profit which since we are a publicly traded company and most if not all employees have a stock option we have to make anywhere from 10-15 dollars for every dollar we loose. So if my math is right we would lose 180,000 in product and have to sell approximately 2.4 mil to make up for that loss. So to make a long story short if every store let someone return a 50.00 alternator cause they just wanted to have it taken care of and we have almost 4,000 stores thats 200,000 we would lose in just one year and have to sell out of just to stay a float. So man its not that we are being pricks we just have to take care of our selves and compmany or there might not be one tommorrow. We as a company Oreillys strive to give the best customer service possible and will take care of any legitimate warranty you have, but man please dont try and take advantage of us. we want to do a service for you and give you the best price but we cant do it without your help.
