Looking into using one of these fuel cells, but curious. I'm new to anything to do with fuel and motors and all. I can do anything when it comes to frames and suspension, but I'm new to the fuel end of building a complete custom. Now my question is, can I use this fuel cell, and paint it? How does it get fuel? Is one of the lines a pickup, one a return, and one a vent? Just curious, cuz I'm going to order one very soon.

i gotta fuel cell on my yota that is a rci from summit. i know i have 2 of those port holes there but neither a return or pickup line go into either of them. i just plugged them off cause i was able to just cut a bigger hole for my fuel pump to fit in there.my sending unit worked too. not sure if your going aftermarket fuel pump or not but like i said i just plugged those ports off.

it's going in a Chevy, so the sendgin unit on it will work. I'm gonna have all aftermarket guages though, so that don't really matter. As for the pump, if I use an electric, it's gonna be an external, but most likely, I'm gonna use a mechanical fuel pump on the engine. Not exactly sure though. Just kind of curious if I need this typ or one with a bottom sump. I got a drag racing buddy who says the only time I need a sump, is basically when I have alot of HP and need the gravtiy to help feed fuel, which won't be the case with my setup.

yeah i dont think you would really need the sump on there.

EFI,(fuel injection) will have a feed,vent & return line.Carbed,feed & vent only.

Ok, first off you can run a return line with carbs. Secondly if you use an external electric fuel pump for a carb most pumps need to be below the tank to help gravity feed the pump so it doesn't have to work as hard. Most owners manuals even state this. Which leads me to the sump. I'm not sure if one of those top ports has a tube that runs to the bottom of the tank unless there is a bottom port, otherwise the pump has to work harder to pull fuel up the lines. A sump also makes sure that all the fuel goes in the lines meaning when the tank is empty, its empty. I know, I ran my truck out of gas once and there was not hardly even a drop of fuel in the tank. One port is also a rollover vent.

I have a fuel cell identical to that one right now and have use them on other trucks as well. One is a pickup or feed, one is a return, and one is a vent. I am using mine in a Mazda with a weber carb and the stock mechanical fuel pump.My weber has a feed and return line so all the ports are used except the vent which I put a cheap filter on to keep dirt out.If cap the vent the fumes will make the tank expand.
