i have my grandparents old toyota that i will never get rid of. i love this truck just about more than anything. this is the first vehicle that i ever drove. i have always wanted to put a 302 in a ranger, but i blew the engine in the toyota at 228K miles. i was being really stupid and was drunk when i did it. i know i know. dont drink and drive. and when i havent since i did this. i have a friend at work that is building a 51 chevy 5 window into a rat rod. he's putting a 302 in it. building it exactly how i want to build my engine. he told me that he would help with the swap if i find all the info that i need. i have been trying to find info on doing this swap in the toyota and all i can find is them in 4x4s. asked a couple of toyota forums and came up with nothing. i want to build this truck as a rat rod. i know that there is a 4 wheeling company that makes engine mounts for the swap, but not sure if it will fit on the 2wd frame. also not sure if the frames are the same. if anyone can give me info that would be awesome. this will be my first swap, and im a newb at this. i know that i can do the work. i just need to be pointed in the right direction. again, any help would be great. thanks. mike.

im puttin a sbc in my truck but my friend(onelowfrontier) is doin a 302 in his frontier. but the motor will fit between the frame rails just fine. build some mounts. its not hard. you wont have distributor issues with it being in the front of the engine. and the transmission is pretty small too. so i would first get the motor in and build mounts then go from there. shortening/lenghtenin drive shaft. buildin a bigger tranny tunnel clearance for a radiator and you belts and other stupid stuff. its really not hard at all. just takes time and of course $$$$$! once you got the motor mached up you can build mounts and its pretty much build around what you have.

Look for a C4 auto trans, they are the smallest and are easily built up.
