Ok guys listen ....first off, check to see if the fuel pump is in the tank..I experianced the same kinda problem with my Safari when I bought it..Ran rich and ran real rough.I was told by the GM dealership that ran a diagnostic on it that it was infact the spider injection. Tear it down , replace the spider injection and intake plenum gasket , runs like shit still....Now,i replaced all the usual stuff after that..O2 sensor, plugs, wires, dist cap, rotor button, pickup in dist and still it ran like shit. I was then really sorry I bought it.I went to see a local machine shop guy about some work I already had thereand we got on the discusion about the Safari and the problem I was having....Turns out he was right on this one..seems 4.3's have a problem with their intake valves..for lack of better terms..mushrooming or cupping the face and not closing when running or under a load..basically they are staying open and you can't detect it doing a compression check because of no oil pressure the valve closes enough to not show a drop...I know this sounds like alot to go thru....but I just wanted to let you know what it could be....I hope this helps you guys out.....BIG RICK____ASTRO SS. Also guys...don't drive them like this....It Will thin your oil and you know what that can lead to...mine came out like gas...flush it with new oil..then change weekly for at least 3 weeks to get it all out..
