so i have a vortec V6 out of a 97 Sonoma with tranny. i am taking all the EFI off and doing all the carbureted  ungrades. i have the stock automatic tranny. here's the question. What year carbureted S-10 do i need to go back and grab an automatic tranny from? what tranny will work with the carb-V6 now? i need automatic for clearance issue with my peddels ....   If you have a legit answer PLEASE email me, i need the advice.. eddy_cebreco@yahoo.com Thanks guys !!!!!!!

Eddy, If you keep the crank position sensor & adapt a throttle position sensor to a carb, you can keep your trucks PCM and original transmission. However custom PCM tuning will need to get done in order to perform correctly. View the thread" Mykk's '04 Silverado" in the Chevy section to see pics of my own similar build.

a 97 shouldnt use a crank sensor  but any tranny thats not electronic will work like a 700r4, 4l60 (not 4l60e), or any chevy v8 tranny bolt pattern will work like a 350, 400, 250, etc just remember that the overdrive trannies are going to be long so if you go with a 3 speed auto you will need to relocate your crossmember and get a new driveshaft.  just on a 700r4 and 4l60 the lockup will have to be wired. and about the carburetor, just have to get an intake for the vortec heads to switch it to carb or get the heads, intake, carb and all from a carbed 4.3  the vortec heads are angled different.  also, i think any 95 or older tranny will work as long as you don't get a 95 vortec tranny cause it has the electronic tranny cause they switched to obd2 on some of the 95's.  i hope this helps
