hey max Just curious if  when you get the  halfshafts shortened on a irs do they balance them like a driveshaft?  reason im asking, is im thinking of shortening them myself.. i have all the equiptment to do it, thinking of cutting them removing the uneeded section and pinning them back together so i know they are perfectly aligned.. was also thinking  i shouldnt have any problems if i score a line on the side of them and align that line up when i re weld them back together.

any insight on ths max?

Hmm... I have heard of that being done successfully before, but I'm not particularly fond of the idea. Most halfshafts are not ballanced, so that part is not the concern. The issue is that an axle shaft is essentiall a torsion bar. Once you cut and weld one, they no longer have the spring that they need to live for a long time. Chances are that you won't have enough horsepower to be an issue, but the lifespan will certainly be shortened. how short is impossible to tell...
