I have a dc5000 electric compressor from airbagit.com and it was doing fine for a couple of months with two 3 gallon tanks and a 180 pressure switch.. Now all of the sudden it keeps tripping the 40 amp relay one the compressor after a couple minutes if not seconds.. i changed the check valve thinking that it might be sticking, wired it directly from a set of jumper cables from my other truck while it was running, made sure the in-line was clean and i cant figure this peace of sh@t out! so im thinking of going with a different brand or a belt driven compressor.. what are some pros and cons of the belt driven if any.... please help out!!! thanks...

dude.. get rid of that 180 psi switch, onceyou get over 150 in that dc5000, the pressure it built up and its amperage draw is killing it. go to a 110/145 switch, a 50 or 60 amp fuse, and a 40 amp relay should do you fine. let us know how it works out.

If they cant go over 145 why does the website have fill times and info up to 200 psi?            DC5000 1/2hp Max 205psi Weighs 17lbs Time to fill a 5 Gallon tank to 200psi 6 Minutes, 40 seconds

Did you ever consider that you breaker was weak...Like before you jumped up on here bashing the compressor, or that maybe the wiring was too small, or your connections were no good.  Im not trying to be an internet dick, but a lot of things can cause a circuit breaker to trip.  Not to mention circuit breakers get weaker every time they trip.  They are not deisnged to be used like a switch.

I had a dc5000 for over 3 years with no problems. I finally got rid of it, not because of it going bad, but because I upgraded to a oasis.

My truck isnt even driveable. the motor and tranny is out of it and ive used the compressor maybe for 2 months in my driveway just to air the truck up to move it... My connections arent bad and even if they were I wired the compressor to my other truck running with 0 gauge wire and a good ground and it still tripped the relay which is a 40 amp... So yea I AM bashing the comp... INTERNET DICK. I already figured it out. One of the wires on the commutator inside was a little loose. I tightened it up and its fine now... Thanks gravity5

Seriously, you are bashing me.  Meh, whatever if the compressor works, thats all that matters.  Issue resolved.

i ran 2 dc5000 compressors in my caprice into 2  three gallon tanks and i replaced the circuit braker for a bigger one and never had anothe problem with them. They are not the fastest or quietest compressors but they are extremly dependable.
