Hey Max, I need a little help with my setup so I brought this topic up. I just called heid@s about the crossmember that I bought from them to find out why my lca's wont fit. The gentelman that I spoke with told me that I would need to probably stretch the lca to make it fit over the welded inner tube. He said that the arms sometimes shrink when they weld them together. I told him that the control arm would be about 3/16'' too short including the washers and bushings. I then told him that the control arms are from a different company and of course he says "only our control arms will fit our crossmembers". So I see now where this is going so I decided to ask you.Could'nt I just shave down the welded inner tube to make it fit or will that change the design? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Slim

Its really important to try to stick with the same manufacturer when using components like this, or at least check with them for compatibility. I just did an M2 on a 36 Ford Sedan and the crossmember and strut rod eliminators were by different manufacturers. i had to heavily modify the Heidt's strut rod eliminators to get them to work with the off brand crossmember he supplied. So the money saved going with a 'cheaper' crossmember, ended up getting spent on labour to cut up his Heidts parts. If the arms are off by the same amount per side I would say just shorten up the tube. You could spread them but it will be tough to do without damaging the finish on the arms. However if the bushing ends are really out of square as a result of them pulling in, you may have some other issues to deal with.

Ya the only thing I would be concerned with is the bushing being out of square, but if its just 3/16" then it may not be too far off. If you stretch it then one leg might stretch more then another and you might mess up the front end alignment since the lowers arnt adjustable.

It almost seems as the if they made the inner tube to long on the crossmember. Everything is square and even. Maybe its the arms like you say but I figure if anything I would just modify the inner tubes and not the arms. Im not to worried about the finish on the arms cause Im changing the color anyways.

If the bushing ends on the arms are square, and out the same amount on both sides, just modify the tube on the crossmember.  You can't say they made the inner tube to long if its not designed to work with a different brand of arms.

I'm building a full chassis with Heidts suspension, and the bushings are different than the bushings in the arms you have, they press in from the out side. But non the less I would say trim tha back of that tube off a little bit and you should be fine, just make sure your washers go in and its a nice snug fit, because the whole Heidts setup fits together pretty tight.
