I'm looking for a wrecked 2000 and up tahoe/yukon/denali/suburban/silverado/sierra, etc.  Basically i want the motor and tranny, computer,  dash, a/c system, and seats.  I figured the best way is to try to find a wrecked one in a salvage yard somewhere, but i have no idea how to search for that on ebay or craigslist.  If anyone knows of one in the dallas/ft worth area, you'd really be helping me out.  I'd owe someone big time if they could help me find one fairly cheap.  How do i need to search for this?  Is there a junkyard database somewhere or something?

Hey buddy, you might give this website a shot. You can search wrecking yards in your area by zip code. It's helped me out a couple of times.    http://www.car-part.com/ Good luck with the find.

i dont know what it is like in your region, but in mine only licensed rebuilders and dismantlers can buy those type of vehicles. There is a reason they are written off from insurance companies, and it is because they are unsafe for road use. Not to say your purpose isnt perfect for what some of these vehicles are, but buying one from a salvage lot, or insurance company will be tough, because they dont want the liability of you some how putting it back on the roads.I am a licensed rebuilder and dismantler, so I do buy quite a few of these type vehicles, however when I buy dismantle only vehicles, there are nice price breaks on them being cheaper, but still a lot of hoops for me to jump through to get them. Rebuildable vehicles are much easier to come by, because they are still safe once repaired, however they will come with a price tag. Your best bet will be to keep your eyes open on local classifeds and wait for someone that smashed up their truck with a DUI or something that an insurance company wont pay them out for. -Good luckBrad

Look at copart.com           I used to work for them, they get all the cars insurance companies total and sell at auction. They were exclusively an auction for dealers but they have been running adds on Speed channel saying how they are open to the public now.  I looked at the site and I think you can buy from them but only in certain states. You would have to get the whole truck tho.
