Not sure where to post this blog,First off I live in California and  I have a 2000 S10 with the 10.5" avs led's with reverse my question is if I put Some oval reflectors on the side of the bed in the rear if that will keep the police from pulling me over, too many people with the FBI led's have been pulled over and given tickets. Any help regarding this issue would be great Or maybe ill have the colorado tails installed???

I don't own LED's but why exactly are you guys being ticketed for then? they are red i assume. they do get brighter when you step on the brake. they do have reverse.... What is the issue? Just curious

No reflectors, facing toward the rear and the sides of the vehicle. You could put reflectors on while driving, but some ahole cop will give you a ticket for modified other than stock

most of the time the issue is that they don't "reflect" back like your stock lenses do. they want it to where if someone were coming up behind your truck and your taillights were off that the vehicle in the backs headlights will still reflect off the lens and in turn keep your truck from getting rear ended. Now i'm sure yours have running lights, but that's not good enough for the DOT. Now i don't have LEDs so i haven't been pulled over for them, but i have heard of people putting magnetic reflectors on the back to make the authorities happy. Now that should keep the tickets to a minimum but don't count on them leaving you alone anytime soon, lol

yeah, you need to have reflectors or lights on the sides pointing out.. ive been itching to flush some 4" leds into the sides of my next project but i havent gotten one yet. and if you drive with your parking lights on all the time you should be fine as far as not having rear reflectors.

Thanks for the replies, i havent been pulled over yet but a few people i know have including my brother who posted a concern about his ticket. but im just trying to keep them off me luckily i havent ran into them. where can i get these magnetic reflectors?? i bought some oval trailer ones but havent found a magnet thin enough yet. thanks again for the info. If i can keep the l.e.d's it save from me having to modify some other tail lights

I work on Ambulances and they are equipped with LED tail lights and reverse light. the lens' are not reflective eitherso they have a small reflective sticker in the lower corners of the rear and sides to make them DOT approved. the reflectors even have a DOT stamp in them. im sure if you got some refridgerator style magnets from a craft store or wal mart, and stick them to the magnet

Main thing I hear is the magic letters DOT. Hell even got a "it's not DOT for your vehicle" for the caddy lights on the toy. You also have officers that do not appreciate the fact that LEDS are not in factory locations. Non reflective.  But even if you did find a way to have reflection you're more then likely getting a ticket.  Al has some good points. Try those ideas but you can't compare safety vehicles and vehicles with the magic E on their plates as they are above the law. Just ask them they'll tell you they are above you. Magnets and double sided tape does wonders for items for the fix it sign off. I've used both for sideview mirror write offs. Or find out what station in the area doesn't walk out to verify the corrections and blinding signs off. (east valley station in Thousand Oaks does that) Big reality of it all. Your ride is illegal anyways thats just one more thing for them to write you up on. So build it how you want to and hope they write you up on enough to negotiate with the judge for reduced fines.
