i have an 89 yota 2wd with a chevy 305 and powerglide trans and beat on the stock yota rear for months drivin it daily. I still have the truck and the rearend is still holdin up. I believe they are 4.10 or something like that so u can take off nice with it.  If you go with a ford 9" ur gonna have to get it narrowed. Check out ford rangers might fit some of em came posi with the same lug patern. Or check out jeep wranglers with lockers and fancier cherokees have rear disc brakes all with your lug pattern.

there are lockers and gear sets available for the toyota rearends and moser can make any strength axles you want. you just need to look through some 4X4 sites to find supplies. when i built my last yota rearend i found a company that had gear sets from the 2's area up into the high 5's. these rearends are used alot in round track racing and 4x4's. they are not cheap to build though! if you want more info just google toyota gear sets and you will get info http://home.4x4wire.com/erik/diffs/

4x4 us the 6 lugs axles and yes they make upgrades for the 6 lugs but that wont help me...it would be cheaper to swap in an axle then have some custom shafts made...i have a mazda irs but im sure it wont take anymore then the yota axles

they make the same upgrades for the 5 lug! yes it would also be cheaper to swap it out. a 9" built and narrowed will be cheaperd. the last ring and pinion i bought for a 8" yota rearend was almost $700 just for the ring and pinion. not counting all the bearings and crush sleeves and such!

What about a late model Mustang 8.8 with factory posi? I believe the '94 and up rearends are 5 lug. I'm not sure how wide they are though...
