on a factory style shock does it react the same way being pushed as it does being pulled? im trying to squeeze my shocks in so if they would work the opposite way ill have more room

yes and no. lol some shocks work better upside down with the valving being upside down. most stockers you wont see any difference at all.

Shocks have seperate compression and rebound damping vales in them, and they are designed  to work a certain way and with certain forces in each direction.  They will damp in either direction but it will not be the same.

As a shock colapses it has a small amount of damping to help slow down the vehicle from bottoming, but as it rebounds the damping is much stiffer to keep it from bouncing aimlessly.

ok thanks. i may just have to do something like on OEM terror. thats the only other place i have room.
